Udinese have moved out of the Serie A drop zone after a hard-fought 2-0 win at Lecce.

The victory lifted them a point clear of the relegation zone with two games remaining.

Lorenzo Lucca got the opener in the 36th minute with a towering header following a cross from Martin Payero. Lazar Samardzic added the second with a typical poacher’s goal five minutes from time.

Fabio Cannavaro’s men are still in a dogfight. Udinese are one of six teams fighting to avoid joining the already relegated Salernitana in the second division next season.

Only two points separate Empoli in the last relegation spot and Verona in 14th, with three teams between them. Sassuolo are also still hoping, being three points behind Empoli.

Lecce are secure in mid-table.
