MANILA: The loss of life toll from a landslide within the southern Philippines has climbed to 68, as officers mentioned on Monday (Feb 12) that the window of discovering extra survivors is closing.

Rescuers have been on the lookout for 51 extra folks within the wake of the Feb 6 landslide, which struck outdoors a gold mine in Maco city in Davao de Oro province and buried properties and automobiles that have been imagined to ferry staff of the mining firm.

“It is almost a week after the incident and… we are assuming that no one is alive there,” Edward Macapili, spokesman for the Davao de Oro provincial catastrophe workplace, informed AFP.

“There is already a foul smell in the area now so there’s a need to fast-track the retrieval.”
