After a three-year restoration project following cyclone Seroja leaving a trail of damage in its wake, the rebuild of Yuna’s Country Women’s Association centre is complete.

A plaque was laid to commemorate the occasion at a morning tea on August 1, with State president of the CWA Felicity Edward and CEO Trish Langdon in attendance along with current and past members, community volunteers and businesses who had donated generously toward the $150,000 restoration project.

Yuna CWA project manager Susanne Warr said: “It’s been rewarding to return to our CWA Centre, retain our identity and keep the historic significance.

“Our centre is part of our history of Yuna, and we are grateful for all grants, donations and the supportive community who have allowed the opportunity for it to be restored.

“Our venue gives us pride and strengthens our identity as we continue to celebrate achievements and the service we give to our community and beyond. “

The CWA shares the space with Yuna Playgroup, with members believing it vital for the community to restore the space for young children and new members.

The rebuild started in early 2022, restoring the vintage 1950s kitchen to its former glory, removing asbestos from the 90-year-old buildings and replacing the patio and playground area that was flattened by Seroja in April 2021.

The Yuna branch was supported by the head office of CWA WA through Jubilee grant funding, the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal and the Shire of Chapman Valley Community Growth Fund.
