A grandmother on a late-night walk with her dog was attacked and chased by an armed man “dressed as a ninja” before her husband heroically put an end to a violent home invasion in Perth’s south on New Year’s Eve.

Teresa Urbaniak was allegedly approached by a 35-year-old man wearing all black at Perena Rocchi Reserve on Sandpiper Loop, in Yangebup, about 10.40pm on Tuesday.

Police said she was allegedly punched and scratched before she was chased back to her nearby home, before the attacker forced his way inside.

“He was in (an) all-black costume (and he) looked like a ninja,” the 64-year-old told 9NEWS.

“I was really scared that he was going to kill me.”

Her husband — 62-year-old Piotr Urbaniak — tackled the man to the floor before police arrived.

He was left bloodied and injured after he was allegedly attacked during the citizen’s arrest.

Officers who made the arrest, who were captured on CCTV, said the man had tried to grab one of their tasers.

“I was fighting for my life because I saw these long things (weapons),” he said. “I didn’t know if he had a gun.”

Police arrived shortly after before the accused attacker was arrested.

Officers who made the arrest, who were captured on CCTV, said the man had tried to grab one of their tasers.

The alleged attacker, a 35-year-old from Yangebup, was allegedly found with multiple ninja-style weapons. Police have seized two sai, a set of knuckle dusters and a throwing star allegedly found on the man.

Mr Urbaniak thanked police for their help during the alleged attack, which has left his wife struggling to sleep.

The accused fronted Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday where he was refused bail.

He will reappear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Friday over nine charges including aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, aggravated home burglary and three counts of carrying a controlled weapon.
