With simply days to go till the photo voltaic eclipse, the Waterloo Region District School Board has introduced that colleges might be closed to college students on Monday.

The transfer comes as an about-face. On March 6 the board issued a launch that stated colleges would stay open.

The WRDSB introduced that call regardless of boards throughout the province, together with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, asserting that colleges will shut for teenagers’ security.

The public board says it made the change after listening to considerations from dad and mom and workers concerning the eclipse.

“Concerns for student safety have always been at the forefront of the decision-making for this day,” a launch from the college learn. “The initial decision to have a regular school day was one we felt was possible, given the safety protocols we were prepared to implement. When the Catholic board introduced the transfer, it stated there have been considerations over college students hurting their eyes as they headed dwelling from faculty and probably appeared upwards to see the phenomenon.

The Catholic board moved a PD Day that was initially scheduled for April 19 to April 8 when it introduced its plans again in mid-February. The public board has a PD Day set for Wednesday, though a launch made no point out of transferring that day to Monday.

The last-minute choice is bound to go away many dad and mom trying to find childcare, an element the board says it thought of in making the transfer.

“We recognize the challenges this change for April 8 may cause some families and are especially sorry about those who will need to make alternative child care arrangements,” the board famous. “We continue to hope that students will have the opportunity to take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
