A storm advice warning has been issued for parts of WA, with large hailstones, heavy rainfall, and damaging winds set to hit on Friday afternoon.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued the warning to parts of the Pilbara, Midwest Gascoyne, and Goldfields Midlands at 4.05pm, warning residents that severe weather is expected over the next several hours.
Locations including Carnegie, Laverton, Leinster, Leonora, Menzies, and Wiluna may be impacted by the storm.
DFES has instructed residents to “act now and stay safe” as a “trough of low pressure combines with a hot and unstable airmass to produce severe thunderstorms through central parts of the State”.
DFES has also advised people in the affected areas to:
- Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items around your home that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds.
- Prepare an emergency kit with a radio that runs off batteries, a torch, spare batteries and a first aid kit.
- Review your plan and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do. If you do not have a plan, make one now on Emergency WA or in the Emergency WA app.
- Be prepared to stay indoors when the storm hits.
