Thousands of models from a luxury car line sold in Australia have been urgently recalled due to a critical defect, which the consumer watchdog says could increase the risk of serious injury or death.

The recall notice covers Ford Mustangs made between 2022 and 2025, stating the models may have suffered a manufacturing defect impacting the vehicle’s lights.

It covers 7222 units and all variants within the model range.

In a statement, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) said the Body Control Module (BCM) of Ford Mustangs made in that period may be susceptible to water leakage.

“As a result, the front and rear side marker lamps, taillamps, and license plate lamps may not operate as intended,” the statement reads.

“Lighting features not operating as intended may reduce the driver’s visibility.

“Additionally, other road users may be unable to identify the vehicle in dark conditions increasing the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Ford Motor Company Australia asking them to schedule an appointment with their local dealership to have the work carried out, free of charge.
