A Telstra outage was resolved just before 9pm on Tuesday night after affecting triple-0 calls in the State’s Great Southern region.

Earlier, police said a mobile phone outage between Katanning and Esperance — a distance of about 460km — could impact calls to emergency services along WA’s south coast.

“Calls to triple-0 on the Telstra network will automatically leverage alternative carriers if available,” a WA Police spokesperson said.

There were at least three “unplanned service interruptions” covering large swathes of the Ravensthorpe area, which is about 190km west of Esperance, according to Telstra’s online outage maps.

The outages also extended further west to Jerramungup, with the Telstra website alerting a “potential issue in WA”.

“We’re looking into a potential issue affecting some Telstra customers in WA. We’re on the case and will provide an update soon,” its website said.

NBN and fixed-line services were operating normally, as Telstra worked to restore the network.

“It’s important to stay aware of your surroundings and check on vulnerable neighbours if possible,” a police spokesperson said.

“If you have a satellite phone, ensure it is with you at all times.”

St John WA posted the same warnings to its social media.
