The Donnybrook teen who graffitied multiple public facilities in Donnybrook in early March said the crimes were committed out of “sheer boredom”.

The 15-year-old appeared in Bunbury Children’s Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to three charges of vandalism.

A police prosecutor told the court the accused had entered the premises of Donnybrook Football Club at VC Mitchell Park during the late hours in early March.

“He removed cans from a black bag with a yellow smiley face printed on the front,” the prosecutor said.

“He then proceeded to spray paint ‘KOOZ’ in large letters with the numbers 11.325 and 11.301.”

The police prosecution also told the court the words “you’re just fuel for their machine” were also written on the wall.

The court was told CCTV footage caught the teenager, with the clothing he was wearing later seized by police.

The estimated cost repainting of the walls was $2090.

In a seperate incident, the teenager graffitied the word “RAVI” and a “monster face” at Apex Park in Donnybrook between March 7 and March 12.

Also between the same dates, the prosecution said the word “RAVI” was once again sprayed on the white tile wall of the Apple Fun Park toilet block.

Repainting those walls would cost almost $396.

The teen’s lawyer said her boy had admitted to the crimes at an earlier stage and “in his own words, he said he regrets what he did”.

“He said he did the act out of sheer boredom and that there was no good reason for what he did,” the lawyer said.

The lawyer said the teenager was aware of the costs and he offered to pay reparations on a payment plan with the court told he has a full-time job.

The magistrate said a spent conviction with restitution made to the shire would be “punishment enough given he has no previous record”.

“You’ve never been in trouble before, you’ve cooperated with the police,” she said.

“I’m going to do it my way with no further punishments. Usually I would inflict community service, but you have the means for the reparations.

“I’m not sure why you engaged in that behaviour, but it’s something the community doesn’t need.”
