The police responded to what they described as “an active threat” at a hospital in York County, Pa., on Saturday.

A gunman was at the hospital on Saturday and shots were fired, Susan Manko, a vice president of public relations for the hospital, confirmed in an emailed statement.

“The gunman has been apprehended, and no patients have been injured,” she wrote, adding, “The hospital is now secure. This is a fluid situation. Law enforcement is on premises and is managing the situation.”

The threat, at UPMC Memorial hospital in West Manchester Township, has been “neutralized” and an investigation is underway, Ted Czech, a public information officer for the York County Office of Emergency Management, said in a phone call on Saturday.

This is a developing story.
