The continued probe into the deliberate collapsing of a transmission tower in Pinjar has drawn detectives towards a white four-wheel drive reportedly seen in April last year.

WA Police hope a $100,000 reward will attract anyone with information to come forward after the transmission tower was “significantly damaged” before it collapsed around Thursday, April 20, 2023.

The incident caused temporary power outages and State Security Investigation Group detectives now believe a white four-wheel drive seen in the area, possibly between 4pm and 6pm on the day is collapsed, may be linked to the destruction.

Police say the announcement of the reward led “several” people to contact crime stoppers with information — which included two people being seen in the white car.

“Anyone with information regarding the above vehicle or its occupants, or any other people or vehicles seen in the vicinity of Buloke Road, Wandoo Road and Skink Road between 1 April and 20 April 2023, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers,” police said on Friday.

Joondalup Det-Insp. Gary Butler has previously described the incident as a “unique” and “once in a blue moon” job, that’s not common in Australia.

“As far as we’re aware, it’s never happened in Australia,” he said.

Det-Insp. Butler said while there was not a dollar figure set on the damages yet, it could be more than $1 million.

“I don’t think I can put a total on it but it’s a 50m steel structure so I would suggest significant damage,” he said.

Police previously said there was a chance the culprits were dressed as workers or technicians to not raise suspicion.

State Security Investigations Group detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident.
