Perth Festival and Writing WA have joined forces to placed on an action-packed weekend for passionate readers and writers.

Making its return, Writers Weekend will happen in its new residence on the State Library of WA from February 23 to 25.

The first-time collaboration guarantees two binge-worthy days of inspiring classes throughout varieties and genres for passionate readers and writers.

Writing WA chief government Will Yeoman hoped writers in any respect phases of their careers may discover an occasion to encourage them among the many thrilling line-up and use the weekend to attach with different native creatives.

“If you go over to Melbourne, for example, there is a huge literary scene … so it’s very hard for emerging writers to break in and to feel like they’re a part of it,” he stated.

“My sense is that in Perth and indeed in WA, it’s very different.

“Writers are so supportive of each other and I think that’s because they understand how important it is to keep the ecosystem really strong.

“We’re still relatively small, but when you think about people like Craig Silvey, Holden Sheppard, A.J. Betts who have had their work made into either TV series or films — not to mention Tim Winton and Kim Scott — you can pretty quickly see how much we punch above our weight here in WA,” Yeoman stated.

From youngsters’s literature to hard-nosed journalism, this system contains panels, workshops, readings, performances and conversations with an array of native and worldwide expertise.

Just a few issues festivalgoers can count on:

• Performances, conversations and a songwriting masterclass with Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier.
• A highlight on the Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer Jane Smiley.
• Workshops with Gunflower writer Laura Jean McKay and Singapore-based poet and essayist Mok Zining.
• A dialogue and screening of the highly effective Netflix documentary The Last Daughter with First Nations writer Brenda Matthews.
• Panels that includes a few of Australia’s best authors, poets and journalists equivalent to 2023 Miles Franklin winner Shankari Chandran, Christos Tsiolkas, J. Betts, Holden Sheppard, James Foley, Isobel Bevis, Natasha Lester, Rachel Johns, Chemutai Glasheen, Niki Savva, Madison Godfrey, Anthony De Ceglie and lots of others.
• State Library Story Place activations for youngsters, with enjoyable actions and readings from authors and comedian makers together with Nathan Viney, Tracey Dembo, Sarah Searle, Rebecca M Newman, Kylie Howarth, Tamara Moss and Meg Caddy.
• Panels showcasing the skills of the 2023 Best Australian Yarn winners and Copyright Agency Fellowship winners Chris Womersley and Patrick Mullins.

All Writers Weekend panel classes and Family Program occasions are Pay What You Can that means attendees pays as little, or as a lot, as they need.

Workshops are $40 per individual, a masterclass is $100, a $80 concession, and particular night occasions are $25 per individual.
