Experienced public servant Rob Heferen will take the reins on the tax workplace for a seven-year time period beginning early 2024.
Mr Heferen will be a part of the Australian Taxation Office as commissioner after a number of years as head of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
He has 30 years’ expertise within the Australian public service and beforehand labored on the ATO and Treasury.
Outgoing commissioner Chris Jordan has been on the helm of the organisation for a decade and can end within the high job in February.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers stated Mr Heferen was “an outstanding leader and one of the nation’s most experienced tax experts”.
“His diverse experience across policy development and program delivery in a range of portfolios, as well as representing Australia in international forums, including the UN and OECD, will position Mr Heferen well as commissioner of taxation,” he stated.
In one other key appointment at a high financial establishment, Sarah Hunter has taken on the position of chief economist and assistant governor (financial) on the Reserve Bank of Australia.
She was beforehand head of macroeconomic circumstances at Treasury, and earlier than that was companion at KPMG within the Economics and Tax Centre.
