American Billy Horschel has sympathised with Rory McIlroy after condemning golf’s self-proclaimed “nearly man” to another heartbreaking defeat in the European tour’s flagship PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Horschel eagled the second play-off hole to win the event for the second time in four years on Sunday after he, McIlroy and South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence had finished tied on 20 under par.
