A truck driver has been airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle rolled over in Piesseville on Wednesday afternoon, trapping him inside.

The man in his 50s was driving a truck carrying gravel and soil when it left the road and rolled over on Great Southern Highway near Walkers Road in Piesseville.

The driver was the sole occupant when the vehicle left the road abut 2.30pm and was trapped in the wreckage.

The RAC helicopter was deployed, and emergency services rushed to the scene after they were alerted to the incident.

Three crews from St John WA attended the scene alongside police and crews from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

The man was freed shortly after 3.15pm.

A St John WA spokesperson said the man has sustained serious injuries and is being airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital.
