Top WA jockey Chris Parnham has been booked to ride local hope Luana Miss in the $5 million Quokka (1200m) to be run at Ascot later this month.

Luana Miss was the first horse to be selected for the headline event by slot holder TABtouch despite being only a three-year-old filly.

Trained by Trevor Andrews, Luana Miss burst to national attention with a stunning victory in last year’s Placid Ark Stakes (1200m).

It shot her into calculations for an eastern states voyage, however, connections elected to remain in WA for the immediate future.

Chris Parnham had his first sit on the bay when finishing fourth in Saturday’s Roma Cup (1100m) behind Rope Them In, Smooth Chino and Oscar’s Fortune.

The first two are also confirmed as Quokka starters yet Luana Miss remains ahead of them in betting at $8 to their $10.

Parnham sits in fifth place on the statewide hoop’s premiership with 72 season successes, more than 60 behind William Pike but only 7 1/2 behind the third-placed Lucy Fiore.

More to come.
