A light aircraft made an emergency landing at Newman Airport on October 15 after a malfunction in its landing gear.

The pilot of the Beechcraft Baron twin-engine light aircraft was unable to extend the aircraft’s right main landing gear while conducting their approach to Newman Airport.

After advising emergency services, the aircraft landed on its left main and nosewheel landing gear before coming to rest. There were no reported injuries.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said it was not investigating the incident, assessing it as a technical fault appropriately managed by the pilot.

“The Shire of East Pilbara manages the Newman Airport and assisted with an emergency landing of an aircraft,” Shire of East Pilbara president Anthony Middleton said.

“No passengers were injured and the team worked with professionalism, utilising their training to safely manage the situation.”
