A Democratic candidate for North Dakota governor has ended his long-shot marketing campaign.

Travis Hipsher, of Neche, introduced his withdrawal on Sunday. The little-known Democrat, who’s a safety guard at a bus producer, stated he “didn’t have the numbers to continue to carry out the fight to get the endorsement” of the celebration at its conference later this week.

Hipsher’s withdrawal basically clears the best way for state Sen. Merrill Piepkorn, of Fargo, to clinch the Democratic nod for governor. The celebration faces headwinds in Republican-dominant North Dakota, the place Democrats have not gained a statewide election since 2012.
The Republican Party may also maintain its state conference later this week, however some candidates are taking their campaigns to the June 11 main election, when voters will decide the nominees for November.
U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong and Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller are competing for the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Independent Michael Coachman, a frequent statewide candidate, is also operating for governor. Republican Gov. Doug Burgum shouldn’t be looking for a 3rd time period.
