Cricket Australia is advertising for a newly-created national pace bowling coach role, which could shape the management of Western Australia’s quicks.
The new coach would oversee a “national strategy” around the management and development of fast bowlers.
And they would work with the Australian national team, Australia A and under-age representative teams.
The management of fast bowlers, including WA stars Lance Morris and Jhye Richardson, has been in the spotlight in recent seasons, with contracted quicks held on a tight leash from domestic cricket.
Cricket Australia and WA Cricket staff met last week to discuss immediate plans for those two players, with the State program keen for them to return to red-ball cricket before the Big Bash League break.
Morris was ramping up his pace in the WACA Ground nets on Tuesday, with an eye to a return in WA’s one-dayer against Tasmania at the venue on Thursday.
It appears the new coach would work closely with State associations.
“We’re looking for someone to bring passion, drive and expertise to lead our national strategy to develop world-class pace bowlers, which will include overseeing the preparation of pace bowlers for our national teams, providing pace bowling coaching support to the Australian men’s and Australia A men’s teams, and supporting pace bowling coach development across Australian cricket,” the job advertisement read.
One of the jobs include: “leading design and delivery of a coaching strategy for the sustainable development of world-class pace bowlers”.
The governing body is also set to establish a nationwide panel of fast-bowling coaches.
