The drunk driver who killed a beloved Melbourne woman has learnt his fate for the horror car park crash.

Connor Mathiasson, 24, returned before the County Court of Victoria on Monday where he was jailed by Judge Robyn Harper for 11 years.

“You have taken the life of one much loved young woman and seriously injured another, the grief you have caused is immeasurable,” the judge said.

Mathiasson was between three and four times the legal limit when he jumped behind the wheel of his Holden Commodore and attempted to leave a rave at a park in Kooyong, in Melbourne’s southeast, shortly after 1am on October 13 last year.

The unlicensed driver accelerated heavily in reverse, striking Elise Hodder, 24, and her friends before crashing into a parked car.

Ms Hodder, an aspiring model and lifeguard, was trapped under the vehicle and died from her injuries.

The court was told he had been captured on a speed camera speeding and drinking while driving earlier in the night.

“All of these factors demonstrate your contempt for the safety of other road users on the night in question,” Judge Harper said.

The judge said she had received 25 victim impact statements, detailing the “catastrophic impact of this offending”.

“Mr Mathiasson, this was a catastrophic collision entirely of your own doing.

“You chose to drink to excess and drive … there is now no undoing of your negligent behaviour.”

Ms Hodder’s friend Emma Swords, 26, suffered two broken ankles, with Mathiasson pleading guilty earlier this year to culpable driving causing death and negligent driving causing serious injury.

“I don’t care what happens to me, all I care about is what happens to that girl,” he told police after his arrest at the scene.

Dozens of Ms Hodder’s family and friend packed out the courtroom.

Her mother, Pauline Hodder, sobbed as details of the crime were read to the court.

Mathiasson has written, but not sent, apology letters to Ms Hodder and Ms Swords family, believing they did not want to receive them.

“It was pretty difficult, they just seem to want me dead,” Judge Harper said quoting Mathiasson.

“I would probably want the same thing.”

Mathiasson will serve seven years before becoming eligible for parole.
