A nationwide outage at border force kiosks has caused chaos at Australian international airports, with reports of delays around the country.

The Australian Border Force said they were aware of a technical outage at both inbound and outbound SmartGate kiosks on Friday morning.

“Additional ABF officers are being surged into work areas to manually process passengers and provide as minimal disruption as possible,” a spokesperson said.

“The issue is currently being rectified and systems are slowly returning online.”

“We appreciate traveller’s patience as we continue to work through the issue.”

A Perth Airport spokeswoman said they were aware of the outage but said there were no reported delays or disruptions.

It comes amid reports of delays at international airports including Melbourne and Sydney.

More to come.
