Marist handed Dalyellup their second loss of the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association first-grade season at Dalyellup College on Saturday, winning a close contest by 26 runs.

A Haydn Slodecki hundred helped the Blues recover from all sorts of early trouble at 4-20 to make a score of 6-216, which they defended by bowling the hosts out for 190 as Brayden Clarke played a fine all-round hand.

The Marist No.3 made a classy 104 from 128 deliveries, playing a supporting role to a breezy Cooper Clarke-Dehring (36 from 32 balls) knock before building a 149-run fifth-wicket stand with Clarke, who finished on 56 not out from 98 balls.

Zane Verhaaf was the only Dalyellup bowler to take multiple wickets, claiming 2-34 from his 10 overs.

The hosts looked to have the chase in hand for much of the afternoon, with the competition’s leading run-scorer Bradman May in good touch as he passed 50 for the seventh time this season.

Dalyellup were still able to carry on after he was undone by a yorker from Scott Fisher (1-16 from six overs), but they endured a late slide to go from 3-151 to 190 all out.

Clarke (4-38 from 10 overs) and Marist captain Ben Shipley (2-37 from nine overs) were the architects of a collapse which saw the hosts close out the game by losing 7-39.

Reigning premiers Colts moved back to the top of the ladder with a hard-fought three-wicket win over Leschenault at Leschenault Recreation Ground.

The visitors were able to bowl the Green Caps out for a total of 122, which they did not have all their own way in chasing but were able to cross in the 35th over.

Leschenault made a bright start with the ball in defence of their modest total, reducing Colts to 3-20, including the big wicket of Murray Goodwin for three.

Shazad Gondal (3-25 from nine overs) followed up some good work from Jacob Templeton (2-33 from 8.5 overs) to have the Green Caps right in the contest, with the visitors positioned at 6-73.

But Jordan Stynes (13 not out from 22 balls) and Morgan Baxter (12 not out from six balls) were able to hold their nerve and finish the job for the visitors, with Baxter winning the game by hitting Templeton back over his head for six.

Veteran spinners Cruize Ciallella (4-19 from 10 overs) and Tim Hutchison (2-22 from nine overs) again did the damage with the ball for Colts in the first innings, with Corey Chantrill (47 from 81 balls) top-scoring for the hosts.

Hay Park cruised to a seven-wicket win over Collie at home.

The visitors batted first and were able to post a total of 184, which was underpinned by Greg Tomasini’s 97 from 118 deliveries.

Shaun Bulman was the pick of the bowlers for the Redbacks, finishing with figures of 4-24 from 10 overs.

Michael Tassone led the way with 91 from 88 balls at the top of the order as the hosts cruised home in the chase, winning with more than 16 overs to spare.

Captain Nic Rep moved back to the top of the order and helped his side get away to a good start with 44 from 56 deliveries, combining for a 94-run opening partnership with Tassone.
