A manhunt is underway for the driver of a vehicle who took police on a high-speed pursuit through Perth’s northern suburbs early this morning that ended in a fiery crash.
Police attempted to pull the car over around 1.10am on Sunday morning after it was seen doing burnouts on Old Yanchep Road in Banskia Grove, but the driver sped away.
The pursuit lasted less than five minutes, before the Ford Falcon crashed into trees and a fence on a nearby street, bursting into flame and igniting nearby bushland.
A nearby resident Cliff told 7NEWS he was immediately woken by the crash.
“This morning we heard a loud siren. . . and then a loud screech and a bang,” he said.
“We initially thought he up and hit one of those cars up here.”
Fire fighters managed to control the blaze quickly but the incident left residents upset.
“That’s probably our worst nightmare here actually across the road here,” Cliff said.
“We’ve had a couple of fires here anyway, but that one looked like it was really gonna ignite and take off.”
Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
