Australia’s Prime Minister Wins Second Term

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia won in a resounding defeat of the conservative opposition led by Peter Dutton.

“My fellow Australians. Serving as your prime minister is the greatest honor of my life. Today, the Australian people have voted for Australian values. For fairness, aspiration and opportunity for all. In this time of global uncertainty, Australians have chosen optimism and determination. Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way. Looking after each other while building for the future.” “Well, tonight’s not the night that we wanted for the Liberal Party or for our coalition or indeed for our country. But we’ve worked hard every day over the course of the last three years to do our best for our amazing country. Now, we didn’t do well enough during this campaign. That much is obvious tonight, and I accept full responsibility for that. It’s not our night, as I point out, and there are good members, good candidates who have lost their seats or their ambition. And I’m sorry for that, for that. We have an amazing party and we’ll rebuild.
