Daniil Sokolov’s scores are getting better at the Qatar Masters, but they still aren’t good enough yet for the 13-year-old prodigy to make the cut.

Still, time is on the side of the Russian boy who represents Qatar.

The youngster was in the field courtesy of an invitation, and shot a four-over 76 in the second round on Friday to back up his opening-round 75 at Doha Golf Club.

It was a big improvement on his effort in the same event last year as a 12-year-old, when he shot rounds of 78 and 82, but at seven over par, he won’t be playing the weekend.

He’s in good company, though. None of the five Australians in the field managed to survive the one-under-par cut either.

The best of those was Danny List, the West Australian whose second-round 68 gave him a one-over total.

The 24-year-old List had earlier in the week been handed a PGA tour debut by the Genesis Invitational tournament host, Tiger Woods.

List was the 2025 recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption, awarded annually since 2009 to recognise the advancement of diversity in golf.

David Micheluzzi, who shot 71 for a two-over total, Daniel Gale (74 for four over), Jason Scrivener (74 for six over) and Elvis Smylie (78 for eight over) all failed to advance too.

English golfer Brandon Robinson-Thompson led at halfway by two strokes on 10 under after his 68 in his second round.

Robinson-Thompson, who finished eighth in Bahrain last week following an opening 61, recorded birdies on the eighth and 10th and drove the green on the short par-four 16th to set up an eagle from four feet in a bogey-free round.

South Korea’s MK Kim and the Chinese pair of Li Haotong and Ding Wenyi carded matching rounds of 67 to share second place on eight under, with England’s Dan Brown and Japan’s Keita Nakajima another stroke back.

Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, who shared the overnight lead with Robinson-Thompson, could only manage a second round of 72 to remain six under.
