Tom Gross has been dropped from West Coast’s clash against Hawthorn with the exciting first-year midfielder instead playing WAFL.

Gross was joined by defender Sandy Brock in coming to take on Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium on Friday afternoon despite being named in the extended AFL squad to take on the Hawks at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

It means the Eagles will make at least three changes, with Tim Kelly (toe) and Harry Edwards (omitted) already out of the team.

Small forwards Noah Long and Tyler Brockman, co-captain Oscar Allen and premiership defender Tom Cole are all set to make the trip to Melbourne on Saturday with one to be the travelling emergency.

Gross had been a shining light for the Eagles after making his debut against Greater Western Sydney in round four.

The teenager finished with 17 disposals and a goal before backing it up with 18 against Carlton at the Adelaide Oval for Gather Round.

Gross was the sub for the Eagles’ two-point loss to Essendon on Friday night and now comes out of the side as the Eagles change up their midfield mix.

West Coast will confirm the final changes this afternoon.
