West Australian passengers are officially on Santa’s naughty list after fresh polling revealed Perth Uber riders had the lowest rating in the nation.
Uber on Monday released its average rider ratings for 2025, revealing Aussie passengers were so well-behaved that even WA’s near-perfect score of 4.78 earnt it the wooden spoon.
Passenger ratings are evaluated by Uber drivers after each trip and are scored between one and five.
The Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Cairns took out first place with an average rating of 4.88, closely followed by Newcastle and Darwin at 4.86.
Launceston and Hobart came in third with an average rating of 4.85, followed by Wollongong, Sydney, Geelong and Canberra at 4.83.
Brisbane and Melbourne were next at 4.80, followed by Adelaide and Perth at 4.78.
The Northern Territory scored the highest average rating per State with a stellar score of 4.86, followed by Tasmania (4.85), New South Wales (4.84), Queensland (4.83) and the Australian Capital Territory (4.83).
Victoria, South Australia and WA all fell below the national average of 4.82.
A spokesperson for Uber encouraged passengers to be polite, say hello and treat vehicles with care, adding that each ride was a chance for passengers to earn their way into Santa’s good books.
“They say West is best and we know WA riders have everything it takes to get their ratings on the nice list for 2026,” the spokesperson said.
“Our driver partners tell us the riders who consistently get top marks aren’t doing anything extraordinary — it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference.
“A quick hello, being ready at pick-up, treating the car with care and ending the trip on a positive note all go a long way — and the stars tend to follow.”
