A flight departing Melbourne was delayed for over an hour after a surprise stowaway was discovered in the cargo hold, a green tree snake.
The reptile was found slithering among luggage on a Virgin Australia plane on Tuesday afternoon, causing a brief panic before professional snake catcher Mark Pelley was called in to safely remove it.
Authorities believe the snake may have travelled inside a passenger’s suitcase from Queensland, where the flight originated, before making its escape.
The snake will be assessed by a vet before a decision is made about its future.
Once the reptile was removed, Flight VA337 to Brisbane continued its journey, albeit after a lengthy delay.
