Sunday, October 12

Two fisherman in Rockingham had a terrifying encounter early Sunday morning when a great white began circling their boat.

The four-metre shark reportedly stayed for several minutes before eventually moving on.

This sighting comes as the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development issued a shark warning for waters between Meelup and Bunker Bay following an increase in white shark detections over the past three days.

The DPIRD are urging people to take extra care in the water and say any shark sightings should be reported to Water Police on 9442 8600.

This follows another terrifying encounter after a 5m great white circled a group of kayakers at Hillarys Dog Beach in early October.

It comes as The West Australian on Friday revealed three shark sightings had been reported off the WA coast every day since the start of spring — with 91 reported sightings between September 1 and October 1.
