Three men charged with murder over a gruesome attack on a 29-year-old man in a Rivervale park will stand trial after pleading not guilty.
Ricardo Elio Sgro Vieira was discovered at Peet Park on Sydenham Street with multiple wounds to his chest — believed to have been inflicted by a bladed weapon — in the early hours of October 21, 2023.
He was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, where he later died.
CCTV from the park appeared to capture a heated confrontation over money before distressed cries could be heard.
Within one week, Nicholas James Bennetts-Shorter, 27, Jonathan Campbell Valverde, 29, and Dylan Roy McNamara, 30, had been charged.
And on Wednesday, the trio finally entered pleas, appearing in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court via video link huddled together in the same Casuarina Prison room.
All three will front the Supreme Court on December 9.
Bennetts-Shorter has previously pleaded guilty to stealing a silver Toyota Yaris, said to have belonged to Mr Vieira, which was captured in footage leaving the scene.
That charge will also be aired at the December hearing.
Bennetts-Shorter, who appeared at his first hearing with his right arm in a sling, has also previously entered guilty pleas to possessing both a controlled and a prohibited weapon, and possessing methylamphetamine.
He will front Perth Magistrates Court over those charges on November 26.
