A 54-year-old woman who was struck by a snowplow in Truro, N.S., has died in hospital, according to police.
The Truro Police Service, along with firefighters and paramedics, responded to a parking lot on Queen Street at around 6:30 a.m. Monday.
Much of the province was cleaning up after an overnight snowstorm.
Police Chief Dave MacNeil said the woman was walking through the parking lot of a car dealership when she was struck by a snowplow operated by a private contractor.

“We’ve interviewed several people. We’ve obtained video. Conditions at the time were blowing snow, and there was quite a bit of snow coming down. So the conditions weren’t great for visibility,” said MacNeil.
“At the same time (as) the contractor was backing up, the female crossed the parking lot between two parked cars and was struck by the plow.”
He added that the woman was walking to work at a nearby business, but her name is not being released until all family members are notified.
MacNeil said it appears to be an accident and not a criminal matter but the investigation continues.
“Our investigators are still working on this. The vehicle was towed to a secure impound. We’re going to have a mechanical fitness check on the vehicle,” he said.
“They’re still gathering some video and taking some statements from people that were at the scene and we’ll go from there.”
