Ongerup women’s second team claimed the division 5 title at the CBH Group Country Championships held at Perth Hockey Stadium at the weekend.
Despite coming second in pool A behind Pilbara Kroks 2, Ongerup won their crossover 2-1 against pool B table toppers Mortlock 3 to set up a grand final rematch with the Krocs.
Their round-robin contest had ended in a 1-0 defeat but they gained revenge when it counted to triumph 3-1 and win the gold medals.
The top Ongerup team also performed well, coming third in division 3, finishing behind Roe Districts who beat Mortlock 1-0 in the grand final.
Ongerup beat Eastern Goldfields 3-0 and Peel 3-0.
They drew 1-1 with East Avon but lost 2-0 to Mortlock and 1-0 to Roe Districts.
Elsewhere, the Lower Great Southern finished third, with former Hockeyroo Kathryn Slattery scoring 10 goals over the weekend to take out the best and fairest award in division 1.
The Upper Great Southern sides had mixed fortunes with the first team finishing the weekend winless and at the bottom of division 1.
However, the second team won division 4 with a 2-1 grand final win over Central Midlands.
