A musician has been hospitalised after he was stabbed several times outside the venue where he had been performing.
A 53-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing the 69-year-old musician in his chest and back near the entrance of a sports club in Mereweather, in Newcastle’s south, on Sunday night.
Emergency crews were called to Club Mereweather, formerly Merewether Bowling Club, at 7.40pm and treated the injured man at the scene before he was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police say the alleged attacker left the scene before officers arrived, but he was arrested at a home in Stockton, in Newcastle’s north, early on Monday morning.
The 53-year-old man has been taken to Newcastle Police Station for questioning.
Club Merewether hosts live music every Sunday evening, according to its Facebook page.
