Kenwick residents have been ordered to evacuate as firefighters battle an out-of-control bushfire in Perth’s east.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued the emergency warning about 4pm on Saturday,
Locals have been urged to leave now if bound by Welshpool Road East, Roe Highway, Tonkin Highway, Brentwood Road and Bickley Road in parts of Kenwick and Wattle Grove.
“You are in dangers and need to act immediately to survive,” a spokesperson said.
“There is a threat to lives and homes. If the way is clear, leave in an easterly direction.
“Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger.
“If you become stuck in your car, park away from bushes, cover yourself with a woollen blanket, get onto the floor as the windows may break from the intense heat.”
The blaze, which was first reported about 3.40pm on Saturday, is not contained or controlled.
Firefighters are actively fighting the fire, with water bombers sent to assist ground crews.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully.
