The final concept designs for the Karratha Bike Park and Wickham bike facility have been endorsed by councillors.
The endorsement was unanimously given at December’s City of Karratha council meeting. The motion also included agreement to invite tenders for the detailed design of the Wickham facility and to deliver the Karratha park as a priority in stage one of the Richardson Way masterplan.
The Wickham plan includes a pump track, hangout areas, bike racks and drink fountain. The Karratha park would also be home to a pump track and include a jump park, adventure loop skills trail and descending trails.
Rio TInto has agreed to provide $250,000 toward the WIckham facility, with delivery expected this financial year.
However, the Karratha park has yet to be fully funded, with council officers set to “pursue external funding opportunities, including the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund”.
