Fremantle’s Nathan O’Driscoll was swamped by teammates after kicking an emotional goal for Peel Thunder on Saturday, just days after revealing his years-long battle with mental illness.

In emotional scenes at Lane Group Stadium in Mandurah, the Dockers young gun took a big mark deep inside 50 and kicked truly.

Every single one of his Thunder teammates joined in for the celebrations, showering him with love and support. O’Driscoll was also given a standing ovation by the crowd.

It comes after Dockers teammates and even West Coast’s official social media accounts showed their support for the 23-year-old after his revelation on Instagram he had considered suicide.

“Over the past four years, I’ve had some incredible highs, but also some very low moments,” O’Driscoll posted on Wednesday.

“I’ve struggled with anxiety, a constant need to feel like I belong, and always putting others before myself.

“There have been times where I’ve fallen into deep depressive states and three separate times where I’ve been extremely close to committing suicide.”

Dockers coach Justin Longmuir said after their win over the Western Bulldogs on Friday night the young midfielder was in a good space.

“He’s good. He’s been well supported by his family and well supported by the club. He wants to play footy,” he said.

“We’ll keep wrapping our arms around him, keep supporting him and help him.”
