Fremantle have suffered a major blow on the eve of the season, with star midfielder Hayden Young ruled out of the club’s round one clash with Geelong.
The Dockers confirmed the 23-year-old would miss their season-opener against the Cats at GMHBA Stadium after he re-injured his hamstring injury at training on Saturday.
The club said it was a low-grade hamstring strain, similar to the injury he suffered in early February.
“Scans have revealed a minor re-strain of his previous injury, unfortunately this will rule Hayden out of Round 1,” said Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty.
“At this point in time, we are still finalising timelines and we will be able to see how he progresses over the next fortnight. We expect to see Hayden returning in the early rounds of the season.”
The Dockers also confirmed young defender Josh Draper would miss their pre-season clash with Melbourne at Rushton Park in Mandurah on Sunday.
He will be a test for round one with a low-grade hamstring strain.
Captain Alex Pearce remains a test to face the Demons while he recovers from an ankle injury that sidelined him from the Indigenous All Stars clash on February 15.
