An eight-year old Australian boy is fighting for life in a Bali hospital after he was involved in a horrific quad bike accident.
Joshua Schuetz from Perth was on holiday with his family for a football tournament he was meant to compete in this weekend.
The family were on a quad bike tour when the young boy had the “most unimaginable accident” on Wednesday.
The West Australian reported Joshua was a passenger on a bike that was being driven by his older brother when it flipped.
Joshua became trapped under the bike and had to be freed by his brother, sustaining critical injuries in the accident.
Family friend Bernice Ariasa created a fundraiser for the family to cover medical costs in Bali before a Medivac flight is organised to bring the young boy back to Perth.
Ms Ariasa said the eight-year-old had suffered a fractured skull and brain bleed.
The family friend said Joshua’s parents had to pay $20,000 before Joshua could be transferred to an intensive care unit at another hospital with a neurosurgeon.
“They had to pay a further $10,000 deposit for a blood transfusion,” she said.
“So far the bill is $60,000 but climbing (every) hour he is in hospital there.
“(Joshua) had surgery and the cost of this is unknown, he is in stable condition but in a coma.
“A team of Australian doctors and nurses are on their way to air lift Joshua back to the Perth Children’s Hospital where he will be looked after the best he can get.”
The Cockburn Wolves Futsal Club shared a post on social media which called on their community to come together in support of one of their “beloved little champions was undergoing neurosurgery in Bali.”
“The Wolves is an inclusive club and we call for all our members from any faith backgrounds to pray for healing and hold space in your heart for Joshy Schuetz and his family,” the post read.
